'It's the strangest thing' grins Bathiya 'we gave Nihal a couple of our hit songs in Sri Lanka and for some reason he seemed to like Mana Bandu over all of them. It's a brilliant job that he and Bobby are doing for the Asian music scene over in the UK. I wish there were more promoters of Asian music like that across the globe'.
Nihal, a UK born Sri Lankan has been at the forefront of promoting Asian urban music since his teenage years. The laidback young DJ, began his career in music journalism and PR, writing for a series of prominent music magazines and promoting popular hip-hop acts such as Mos Def, Nitin Sawhney, Judge Jules and Beenieman. In the mid 90's Nihal performed with popular hip hop outfit Fun Da Mental and later in 2004 established his own club night 'Bombay Bronx' which showcases some of the hottest Asian Urban music acts today.
'We will continue to work closely with Nihal to promote more Sri Lankan music in the UK' says Santhush. 'Big ups to Bobby and Nihal for the brilliant work they do!' Bobby Friction and Nihal's Asian underground radio show airs on Wednesdays from 9.00PM to 11:30PM on BBC Radio 1.
